Welcome back to another Nerdie Foodie! This week will be a first for us! As requested, we will be diving into our experience at the Breakfast with Minnie and Friends at the Plaza Inn. Let’s get right to it!
Reservations
For the character breakfasts, there are a lot to choose from. We decided on the Plaza Inn based off of a friend’s recommendation since they had been to multiple character breakfasts before. Rach is a huge Winnie the Pooh and Tigger fan and we learned that Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore usually show up at the Plaza Inn breakfast. We made reservations for breakfast at the Plaza Inn as soon as the date was available.

Pro Tip: If the date/time that you want isn’t available for a particular restaurant, keep checking (cancellations are always a possibility). Reservations open 14 days in advance of the date you want to book and you have up to 24 hours before your reservation time to cancel without penalty. So keep your eyes peeled on the app or on the Disney website)!
Checking In
Since we chose to have breakfast right at 9, we were allowed into Disneyland park early during Magic Morning to get to The Plaza Inn for our reservation. We had no idea that it was going to be hosted by Minnie Mouse until we got to the check-in area right at the entrance of the restaurant. Boy, were we surprised! They stamped our hands and gave us a card that was stapled with a receipt that had our reservation information. Once everyone in your party is present, you can then head over to Minnie Mouse whom is waiting right next to the entrance way to greet you and you can get your photo taken with her before you head on inside to pay for the buffet breakfast. Yes, you read that correctly, it is a buffet breakfast. You also get a pin to remember the dining experience. Once your party has paid, make sure you follow the correct server (we might have followed the wrong person for a minute… Whoops!) who will then lead you to an available table. Your stapled card is placed on the table to show that it is taken by a party.

The buffet itself has a ton of food options. A few people in our group had dietary restrictions and they found many choices to choose from. Disney knows how to cater to dietary restrictions and they do check with you when you check- in if there are any dietary restrictions. For the hot food section, they have an omelet station to make your own omelets, a traditional American style breakfast station, and a Tex-Mex style station. Each of these hot food stations you can choose how you’d like your plate to be fixed up. They also had a cereal bar, fruit and yogurt bar, a selection of Danish pastries and other yummy baked treats, as well as one of my personal favourites: the waffle and French toast section (complete with banana foster if you so desired) plus all the condiments you could possibly want including syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh fruit.

I ended up getting the Minnie-shaped waffles topped with strawberry sauce, hot syrup and a touch of powdered sugar, and the works from the Tex-Mex hot breakfast station. How can I say no to a Mickey-shaped omelet with cheese queso and tomatillo sauce on the side? It also came with homestyle potatoes and I had them add in the bacon with chorizo sausage. The server also talked me into a small serving of oatmeal which I added in brown sugar, cinnamon, blueberries and sliced peaches, as well as a pastry on the side. Was I full? Absolutely! And I almost got talked into getting one of their breakfast corn-dogs as well. But I managed to resist and added in my daily serving of fruit for Round 2.

We sat outside for our breakfast and we had the entire breakfast time frame to enjoy the food and meet as many characters as we could. And there were lots! Of course, we met our hostess, Minnie, as well as Chip and Dale, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyore! We also got a glimpse of the Fairy Godmother and Honest John as well but they mainly stayed inside the restaurant during breakfast. We also did a second round of pictures with Minnie on our way out. Least to say, we shut down the place as they were starting to shut down breakfast service.

Overall, we had a great time. The price for the buffet was reasonably at $34 (plus tax) per person. And we were stuffed. Plus it was defintiely worth the money to dine with all the characters. The food was delicious and you got to spend two full hours eating which was plenty of time for us. The official Disney photographers with Minnie were amazing as well. They even took photos with our own cellphones as well as plenty more with their own professional cameras. They offer a printed set of photos with Minnie which included a souvenir frame/folder with a full sized photo and smaller sized prints, plus a digital copy of all the photos. We highly recommend this magical Disney dining experience, for kids and big kids alike!
